The first canoes
Foragers who came by canoe from the south were living on Antigua nearly four thousand years ago, and left stone and shell tools at sites such as Jolly Beach. About two thousand years ago farming and pottery making peoples from the Orinoco region of South America moved up the island chain and settled here, growing cassava and fishing the reefs.
