Butmir and the Illyrians

Neolithic farmers of the Butmir culture lived near today's Sarajevo around 5000 BC. In the Iron Age the land belonged to Illyrian peoples such as the Daesitiates of central Bosnia and the Ardiaei near the Neretva river. The Ardiaei built a kingdom on the Adriatic under Agron and Teuta, which clashed with Rome from 229 BC.
