Dilmun

From around 2000 BC, Bahrain is the centre of Dilmun, a trading civilisation linking Mesopotamia with the Indus Valley. Freshwater springs, rare in the Gulf, make the island a natural port. Thousands of ancient burial mounds still cover parts of the main island.
