Tiwanaku
Farmers live around Lake Titicaca long before the common era. From about AD 500 the city of Tiwanaku, near the lake's southern shore, becomes the centre of a state whose influence reaches southern Peru, northern Chile and the eastern valleys. Its stone gateways and raised fields still stand. Tiwanaku declines around 1000 to 1100.
