After the ice
As the great ice sheets melt, after about 13,000 years ago, people spread across the land. On the Pacific coast, nations such as the Haida build cedar plank houses and great seagoing canoes. In the Arctic, Palaeo-Inuit cultures such as the Dorset hunt seals on the sea ice. Around the Great Lakes, Iroquoian peoples later grow maize, beans and squash.
