Stones and savannas
The forests of the south west are home to the Aka, hunter gatherers who are among the oldest peoples of central Africa. Near Bouar, in the west, stand groups of large standing stones, the tazunu, raised by farming communities long before any written record. Over many centuries, speakers of Ubangian and Bantu languages settle the savannas and the river valleys.
