Stone houses and copper
People reached Cyprus more than 10,000 years ago. Around 7000 BC farmers built the round stone houses of Khirokitia, now a world heritage site. In the Bronze Age the island grew rich exporting copper. Letters found at Amarna in Egypt, from the fourteenth century BC, come from a king of Alashiya, usually identified with Cyprus.
