Boii and Marcomanni
Bohemia takes its name from the Boii, a Celtic people who lived here in the last centuries BC. Shortly before the start of our era the Germanic Marcomanni under King Maroboduus settled the basin. They later fought Rome in the Marcomannic Wars of 166 to 180, when Emperor Marcus Aurelius campaigned along the Danube. Slavs arrived in the sixth century.
