Lapita voyagers
People of the Lapita culture, known for their decorated pottery, reach Fiji about 3,000 years ago. Over the centuries Fiji becomes a meeting point of Melanesian and Polynesian worlds, with strong ties to Tonga. The islands are divided among many chiefdoms that ally and fight with each other.
