Nan Madol

People settle the Caroline Islands about two thousand years ago. On Pohnpei, the Saudeleur dynasty rules the whole island from Nan Madol, a city of artificial islets built of basalt columns, until it is overthrown around the seventeenth century. Other islands keep their own chiefs.
