Forest peoples
The Lopé valley in central Gabon holds stone tools and some 1,800 rock engravings, traces of the peoples who passed through over many thousands of years. Forest hunter gatherers such as the Babongo and Baka are among the oldest inhabitants. Over roughly the last three thousand years, Bantu-speaking farmers settle along the rivers and the coast, later working iron.
