3400 BC to 302 BC
Early humans and first peoples
Skulls found at Dmanisi show that early humans lived here about 1.8 million years ago, among the oldest such finds outside Africa. Farming villages and Bronze Age cultures followed. In the eighth century BC the kings of Urartu, to the south, fought the tribal unions of Diauehi and Colchis, known to us from Assyrian and Urartian inscriptions.
