Copán
In the far west of Honduras stood Copán, one of the great Maya cities, famous for its carved stelae and its hieroglyphic stairway. Its dynasty ruled from the 400s to the early 800s. The rest of the country was home to other peoples, such as the Lenca, whose lands lay outside the Maya world.
