Ammon, Moab and Edom
Farmers at Ain Ghazal, near Amman, make plaster statues more than 8,000 years ago. In the Iron Age three small kingdoms share the land east of the Jordan: Ammon around Amman, Moab east of the Dead Sea and Edom in the south. Around 840 BC Mesha, king of Moab, records on a stone stele his revolt against the kingdom of Israel.
