Atoll navigators
Micronesian navigators settle the Gilbert Islands, low coral atolls on the equator, well over a thousand years ago. Their descendants, the I-Kiribati, build societies around village meeting houses, the maneaba. The Phoenix and Line Islands, far to the east, have little or no permanent population.
