Liamuiga
The Kalinago called Saint Kitts Liamuiga, the fertile land. Columbus sighted the islands in 1493 on his second voyage, and the Spanish name San Cristobal later became Saint Christopher, or Saint Kitts, in English. Spain claimed the islands but made no settlement, and for more than a century the Kalinago lived there undisturbed.
