Hewanorra
The first farmers on Saint Lucia came by canoe from South America, moving up the chain of islands. They grew cassava, fished and made fine painted pottery. Later the Kalinago came to dominate the island. They called it Iouanalao or Hewanorra, often explained as land of the iguanas, a name the international airport near Vieux Fort still carries.
