5000 BC to 16 BC
Before Rome
People farmed the upper Rhine valley from the Neolithic onwards, and remains of hilltop settlements have been found on the Eschnerberg and on the Gutenberg hill at Balzers. Before Rome, the valley belonged to Raetian and Celtic peoples of the Alps, who traded across the passes between Italy and the lands north of the Alps.
