The Cucuteni-Trypillia farmers
Between about 5000 and 3000 BC the Cucuteni-Trypillia culture flourishes between the Carpathians and the Dnieper. Its farmers build some of the largest settlements in Europe at the time, with hundreds of houses, and make finely painted pottery. Later the land becomes a corridor for herders and horsemen coming from the steppe.
