Farmers and early traders
San hunter-gatherers are joined, from the early centuries AD, by Bantu speaking farmers who bring iron working and settle the river valleys and the coast. By the eighth century trading villages such as Chibuene, near Vilankulo, are already exchanging goods with merchants from across the Indian Ocean.
