The first islanders
Humans reached these islands very early: in Callao Cave in northern Luzon, archaeologists have found the remains of Homo luzonensis, a small human species at least 50,000 years old. The Negrito peoples descend from early settlers. From around 2000 BC Austronesian farmers and seafarers arrive from the north, the ancestors of most Filipinos today.
