Camps on the shore
Stone tools show that people camp on the Qatar peninsula many thousands of years ago. Pottery from Mesopotamia's Ubaid culture, found at coastal sites, shows sea trade more than 7,000 years ago. In the Bronze Age the peninsula lies in the orbit of Dilmun, the trading power centred on nearby Bahrain, but it stays thinly settled.
