4800 BC to 44 BC
Cucuteni and the Dacians
Between about 4800 and 3000 BC, farmers of the Cucuteni culture built large villages in Moldavia and made finely painted pottery. In the first millennium BC the land was home to the Getae and Dacians, Thracian peoples. In the first century BC King Burebista united them into a powerful kingdom; it split after his death in 44 BC, until Decebalus rebuilt it.
