Farmers and rock carvers
People moved into southern Sweden as the ice retreated after the last Ice Age, and farming arrived around 4000 BC. In the Bronze Age people carved thousands of ships, warriors and animals into the rocks at Tanum on the west coast, now a World Heritage site. In the far north the Sami lived from hunting and fishing, and later from reindeer herding.
