A strait in Srivijaya's world
Long before any city stands here, the Singapore Strait is a passage on the sea road between India and China. From the seventh to the thirteenth century it lies within the trading world of Srivijaya, a Buddhist maritime power based at Palembang in Sumatra, whose ships and allies control the straits and the pirates who prey on them.
