Pile dwellings and the oldest wheel
People lived in houses on stilts in the Ljubljana Marshes from about 4500 BC. A wooden wheel with its axle found there, about 5,150 years old, is among the oldest wheels known in the world. In the Iron Age, Hallstatt chieftains were buried with rich bronze vessels, and later Celtic peoples such as the Taurisci settled the area.
