600 BC to 300
Umbrians, Gauls and Rome
Before Rome, the hills near the Adriatic around Monte Titano were home to Umbrian peoples, and from the fourth century BC to the Celtic Senones. Rome defeated the Senones and in 268 BC founded the colony of Ariminum, today's Rimini, on the coast below the mountain. The Via Flaminia later linked it to Rome.
