Notsé and the first peoples
Long before any border, farming peoples settle the hills and plains. Ewe tradition says their ancestors came from Ketu, in today's Benin, to the walled town of Notsé, and scattered west and south in the seventeenth century to escape a harsh king, Agokoli. In the north, the Kabye farm the terraced Kara mountains.
