Jeitun and Gonur
Some of Central Asia's first farmers live at Jeitun, at the foot of the Kopet Dag, around 6000 BC. In the Bronze Age the delta of the Murghab river holds walled towns such as Gonur Depe, centres of the Bactria Margiana culture that flourishes around 2000 BC, with palaces, temples and canals fed by the river.
