Banwari Trace
Trinidad was joined to South America until the end of the last Ice Age, and people came early. At Banwari Trace in the south, archaeologists found a camp of shell gathering hunters about 7,000 years old, the oldest known human site in the eastern Caribbean. Farming and pottery making peoples from the Orinoco came much later and settled both islands.
