5000 BC to 2950 BC
Trypillia and the steppe herders
Between about 5000 and 3000 BC farmers of the Trypillia culture built some of the largest settlements in Europe at the time, such as Talianky and Maidanetske, with up to thousands of houses. On the steppe to the south, herders of the Yamnaya culture appeared around 3300 BC; their descendants spread across much of Europe and Asia.
