Before Europe
Hundreds of Indigenous nations live across North America. Around 1100, Cahokia, near today's St. Louis, is the largest town north of Mexico and the centre of the Mississippian culture. In the south west, Ancestral Puebloans build the great houses of Chaco Canyon, linked by roads across the desert.
