A new dynasty

The Abbasid revolution starts in Khorasan, in eastern Iran, and overthrows the Umayyads in 750. Abu al Abbas al Saffah is the first caliph. In 751 an Arab army defeats a Tang Chinese force at the Talas river in Central Asia, the only major clash between the two great empires of the age.
