330 to 476
New Rome
In 330 Constantine opens his new capital on the site of the Greek town of Byzantium and names it Constantinople. After 395 the empire has two courts, and the eastern one is the richer. Great land walls are built under Theodosius II. When the West falls in 476, the East survives.
