Temujin becomes Chinggis Khan

Temujin is born around 1162 into a minor Mongol family on the steppe. Through alliances, wars and loyalty to his followers he defeats or absorbs the other tribes of Mongolia. In 1206 a great assembly, a kurultai, proclaims him Chinggis Khan, universal ruler. He reorganises his people into units of ten, a hundred and a thousand.
