610 to 632
One Arabia
Muhammad begins preaching in Mecca around 610. In 622 he and his followers move to Medina, the Hijra, year one of the Islamic calendar. Mecca submits in 630. When he dies in 632, much of Arabia is bound to Medina, and his companions choose Abu Bakr to lead the community as caliph, his successor.
