Hills of the Great Lakes
The Twa, forest hunters and potters, are the oldest known inhabitants of these hills. From around 500 BC farming communities that work iron and make the pottery archaeologists call Urewe spread across the Great Lakes region. Over the following centuries farming and cattle herding shape a society of clans that will later be divided into Hutu, Tutsi and Twa.
